The quantity 43 has been withdrawn from use on this 12 months’s FIA World Rally Championship as a mark of respect to motorsport icon Ken Block.
Block, who was greatest identified for his viral video manoeuvres behind the wheel, his larger-than-life persona, alongside together with his skilled Rally prowess, handed away this week in a snowmobile accident on the age of 55.
The American was a fan-favourite, an idol to many and a beloved member of the rallying household.
The quantity 43 was synonymous with Block’s model and one which he carried on a lot of the vehicles he drove – from the very starting of his profession. In honour of his reminiscence, the WRC household in collaboration with the FIA has determined to retire the quantity for the 2023 season.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem mentioned: “Given the large contribution our nice buddy Ken Block made to motorsport and the truth that he was held in such excessive regard by folks the world over, it’s totally acceptable that his #43 will likely be withdrawn from use through the 2023 WRC season.
“Whereas it’s a small gesture, we hope that it’s one that may convey some consolation to his household and associates at the moment. Ken was a real legend and the reminiscence of this true legend will stay with us ceaselessly.”

“The affect that Ken had on rallying in taking our sport to an all-new viewers can’t be underestimated,” added WRC Promoter managing director Jona Siebel.
“For Ken, fan engagement was paramount, making him a beloved determine of the WRC. As a sport, withdrawing the quantity 43 – a quantity synonymous with Ken – is our small mark of respect for Ken’s household, associates and followers,” he added.
Block made his FIA World Rally Championship debut in Mexico in 2007. He began 25 rounds on the pinnacle of the game, primarily behind the wheel of M-Sport Ford vehicles.
