Paul Scholes is eager for Manchester United to draw Juventus or Roma in the Europa League quarter-finals – adding his old side should have no fear over taking on Arsenal over two legs.

United booked their place in the next round of the competition after beating Real Betis 5-1 over two legs, with Marcus Rashford scoring the second leg’s only goal away in Seville on Thursday night.

Juventus have already joined them in Friday’s draw after seeing off Freiburg 3-0 on aggregate with Roma on course to join them, two goals to the good against Real Sociedad in their second leg tie.

Having experienced the big atmosphere when Barcelona came to town for United’s play-off victory over the La Liga leaders, Scholes is not interested in United drawing one of the competition’s smaller sides and wants one of the big-guns in the last eight.

‘I always want the big games, I love those big games at Old Trafford,’ Scholes told BT Sport.

‘I know it’s not quite Champions League when you are in Europa League but the history of Juventus there, what a game that could be.

‘I know both teams probably aren’t at the level they used to be but they seem like they are on their way back. So Juventus for me, possibly Roma.’

Arsenal are set to join United in the draw, leading Sporting in their late-kick off, and could be paired with their Premier League rivals on Friday.

United beat the Gunners 3-1 at Old Trafford early in the season but fell to a 3-2 defeat at the Emirates in January.

Despite Mikel Arteta’s side flying high at the top of the Premier League, Scholes believes United have enough to see off Arsenal over two legs – or even in the final.

‘I think we [United] beat them [Arsenal] over whatever it is was, two legs, one game, whatever,’ Scholes said.

‘They are good enough to best Arsenal. I know Arsenal have been great but I just think we can be better, better in a one off, better at playing them at home, better at playing them away.

‘I just fancy us to beat them.’
